HISTORIC SETTING FOR DAN. 9

DANIEL  9:                             Verse 26       ....  DESOLATIONS   are  determined.
27. And
he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week:

And                                     \\ in the midst of the week
he shall cause the sacrifice and  the oblation to cease,
and                          \\for the overspreading of abominations,   he shall make it desolate, even until the                                \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\consummation

For the Lord, time consistitutes a different dimension and significance, and this appears, especially notable, in these passages.  There are at least four time periods in this prophecy.  The time of Daniel in 536BC, and time of the first restoration of Jerusalem and the Temple, than 33AD, the time of   the Messiah being cut off and 70AD when Jerusalem and the Temple are aga andin destroyed by the people (Romans) of the coming Prince.  That event seemsto have stopped the prophetic clock for Jerusalem--s
Israel had " nothing" for a very long time (over 2000 years), and the analogy of very dead, scattered, bleached dry, bones is a very apt descrption--obviously a miracle.

So God in His graceous mercy brings about this miracle in 1948 israel became a soverign nation, and 2017 Jerusalem became the recognized capitol of Israel.  Th Temple is yet to be  built but that's only a matter of time. Then the Prince--the Anti-christ will sign a defencive covenant with Israel.

What is significant to Daniel's prayer is the city of Jerusalem.

Obviously the Messiah or the Christ (these names one and the same person, but one is Jewish one is Greek or gentile) was significant; the Jews have looked for the Messiah coming to set up His kingdom for centuries.

When Jesus revealed Himself as the Messiah or Christ, to the Jewish religious-institutional figures.  They rejected Him--Jesus didn't appear right or think right, and couldn't fit into their framework of power. (see my BLOG about "BORN AGAIN--WORLDVIEW"). Largely because of this "the Messiah cut off."

For Daniel (then a captive  in 536BC Babylon), Jerusalem and the Temple lay still in ruins from the Babylonians. All of that had to be restored, and then when the Messiah was cut off and the city and sanctuary again are destroyed (by some unknown to lsrael or Daniel--Rome wasn't formed yet.Anf
tiocees Epiphanes was yet to come spreading the Greek culture and language in every known people ) the people of some (unknown) Prince who was to come.

The idea of the Jews even having any significant authority or even presence in Jerusalem appeared as a preposterous idea. Only within our generation has Jerusalem become a capital and even the Israel becoming their sovereign nation appears as nothing short of miraculous.

AT ANY RATE, THE ABOVE--JEWS-- SCATTERED, BLEACHED DRY BONES ARE FAR REMOVED FROM LIFE.  AFTER 7 MILLION WERE KILLED IN WORLD WAR 2, IT WAS A VERY VERY UNLIKELY EVENT OF IRAEL EVER COMING TO LIFE, WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOl-- YET THIS WOULD NECESSARILY HAVE TO HAPPEN, BEFORE JERUSALEM AND THE TEMPLE'S RESTORATION.

From the time of the "cutting off (crucifixion) and destruction of Jerusalem "events, close to two millenum have passed.,

TODAY IN 2018,  JERUSALEM HAS JUST BEEN RECOGNIZED
AS CAPTIAL OF ISRAEL BY U.S.A..
